Watching a group of Mozambicans perform a song in Mandarin gives one an idea of how the cooperation between China and Mozambique transcends the level of diplomatic relations. These are countries with decades of such a deep friendship that it could, at times, be called a brotherhood.

When a group of students from the Confucius Institute at Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) in Maputo recently took to the stage to sing "Friendship" in Mandarin, it became clear how close the two peoples are, despite cultural and geographical boundaries that may seem to deny this proximity.
It is this healthy relationship between Mozambique and China that is expected to be promoted and deepened in the short video competition "United Heart, Common Dreams: Mozambique and China". The event takes place within the framework of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Africa, and entries are open until June 1st.
According to the regulations, all finalists will receive a certificate of honor, and the top ten will be awarded the Ambassador's Scholarship. The document states that participants should be guided by criteria such as daily friendship between neighbors, cooperation for joint growth, beauty and cultural integration, and youth pursuing common dreams.
According to the Chinese ambassador to Mozambique, Zheng Xuan, the competition is not only an artistic celebration of audiovisual language, but also a “spiritual invitation that transcends time and space.”
For the diplomat, although separated by thousands of kilometers, those who understand each other remain close as neighbors, and there are many narratives that deserve to be shared, representing “connections between hearts” and a new expression of Sino-Mozambican friendship.
In turn, the rector of UEM, Manuel Guilherme Júnior, states that young people are invited to narrate their adventures of friendship, cooperation, development, and exchange of cultural experiences with China in the pursuit of their dreams.
“We are convinced that this competition, more than revealing winners and losers, will be a great celebration of friendship, prosperity, and peace, values that guide our relations,” he said.
