Paulina Chiziane was recognized for her invaluable contribution to the literature and cultural identity of the continent.

Paulina Chiziane has just been distinguished as the “Best Writer of Africa 2026” at the African Award – Creators and Directors Excellence 2026, in Luanda, Angola.
The African Award distinguishes leaders, creatives, and professionals who excel in the development and promotion of African culture in various fields. Thus, Paulina Chiziane was recognized for her invaluable contribution to the literature and cultural identity of the continent.
Paulina Chiziane was born in Manjacaze, Gaza province, in 1955. She is the author of “Balada de Amor ao Vento” (1991), the first novel by a Mozambican woman.
In 2014, she was awarded the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator by the Portuguese State. In 2021, she received the most prestigious award in Lusophone literature, the Camões Prize.
