A group of researchers from the Faculty of Medicine at Eduardo Mondlane University is conducting interventions in health centers in the city and province of Maputo with the aim of improving the control of hypertension, diabetes, and schistosomiasis.
The research is part of the COHESION I project, a research study involving countries such as Mozambique, Peru, Nepal, and India, with funding from the NIHR (National Institute for Health Research).
According to UEM, among the various interventions, the implementation of the "Hypertension Corner" in health units stands out. This space is dedicated to measuring blood pressure and sharing information about the disease, with a view to improving the level of awareness and knowledge among the population.
The institution states that the project also focuses on the use of audiovisual materials, informational pamphlets, and television sets installed in health units to reinforce awareness and knowledge among users about hypertension and diabetes in Mozambique.
“Another important component consists of training ‘Champions’ – community leaders who will be responsible for nutritional education and health promotion. Training was also provided to healthcare providers in the diagnosis and treatment of these pathologies,” writes UEM.
