Professors Nelson Maria Rosário and Alex Orlando Ndava were recently recognized as top provincial researchers in the fields of Social Sciences and Agriculture.
Affiliated with the Chibuto School of Business and Entrepreneurship (ESNEC) at Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM), they were recognized during the Provincial Higher Education Conference in Xai-Xai, an event preparing for the National Higher Education Conference. The conference's main objective was to gather contributions for the development of the Strategic Plan for Higher Education 2026–2035, a guiding document for the sector for the next decade.
Nelson Maria Rosário was awarded in the Social Sciences category, and Alex Orlando Ndava in Agriculture.
Nelson Maria Rosário, quoted by UEM, considered the recognition an incentive to continue developing research focused on local realities and the socio-economic development of the country.
“This recognition represents not only an appreciation of my individual work, but also a sign that scientific research continues to be an essential instrument for the country's development. I see this distinction as an incentive to continue producing knowledge in the areas of rural development, entrepreneurship, agriculture and socio-economic inclusion, in addition to reinforcing the conviction that research is also serving society,” he stated.
In turn, Alex Orlando Ndava, also quoted by UEM, considered that the recognition comes at a strategic moment for the debate on the future of higher education and agribusiness in Mozambique.
“Being awarded at this moment reinforces my conviction that scientific research should generate patents, optimize production costs, open marketing channels and, above all, make agricultural companies in Gaza Province competitive in the face of imports entering through our borders,” he said.
