Mount Mabu is famous for being home to the largest continuous mid-to-high altitude rainforest in Southern Africa.

Mount Mabu, one of the most prominent mountains in Zambézia province, is building a conservation and community development support camp. The project focuses on improving working conditions and logistics to further protect this important ecosystem.
The space will also support technical and scientific tourism on the mountain, which is over 1,700 meters high, and other tourism activities, with infrastructure being gradually expanded as new resources become available.
In addition to strengthening environmental conservation, the project also helps to boost the local economy, creating income opportunities for communities and encouraging participation in the sustainable management of natural resources.
The camp could also promote ecotourism on Mount Mabu, bringing additional economic benefits to local populations.
The initiative is part of the PROMOVE Biodiversity Program, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Foundation for Biodiversity Conservation, in coordination with the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC). The program supports biodiversity conservation and sustainable development of local communities in Gilé National Park, the Primeiras and Segundas Islands Environmental Protection Area, and Mount Mabu. At Mount Mabu, activities are carried out by a consortium formed by WWF, ReGeCom, and RADEZA.
Mount Mabu is famous for harboring the largest continuous mid-to-high altitude tropical rainforest in Southern Africa. Known locally as the "Sky Island," the ecosystem covers approximately 7,880 hectares of primary forest and remained largely unknown to the global scientific community until it was mapped in 2005 using satellite imagery.
