Stress, when left uncontrolled, is associated with the development of burnout, chronic diseases and a significant decline in quality of life, affecting both health and professional performance.

Epidemiologist and public health consultant Ivete Meque takes the reader on a journey of discovery about the negative effects of chronic stress and how it triggers a widespread inflammatory reaction with negative effects on the body.
She does so in the book "De-Stress - Simple Habits to Take Care of Mental Health and Build a Rewarding Career," recently released in Maputo by Diário de uma Qawi.
The book highlights how stress, when uncontrolled, is associated with the development of burnout, chronic diseases, and a significant decline in quality of life, affecting both health and professional performance.
The book focuses on burnout, also known as burnout syndrome, a phenomenon characterized by physical and emotional exhaustion, loss of motivation, and reduced work performance.
The result, writes Ivete Meque, is low productivity, inefficiency, and dissatisfaction in work and life. It's not a rare phenomenon, and it's estimated that three out of four professionals have experienced burnout at some point.
The book invites reflection on the challenges of the contemporary lifestyle, marked by the frenzy of hyper-productivity, excessive screen time, and social pressure for material success. Without sacrificing personal and professional success, the author offers a path for readers to learn to prioritize mental health, well-being, and self-care.
"The book focuses on equipping and empowering readers with scientifically proven knowledge and tools that will help them overcome stress at work and prioritize self-care as a key ally to productivity and well-being," explains Ivete Meque.
At the heart of the book's proposal is the 5D Rule, developed by the author, which includes: Slow Down, Disconnect and Move, Rest, Anti-Stress Diet, and Dharma (life purpose).
