Mozambique is moving forward with a new programme dedicated to climate action and the transformation of agri-food systems, thanks to financial support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The project aims to boost joint investments between the public and private sectors, with the aim of reducing the negative impacts of climate change and promoting more sustainable agricultural practices in the country.

The official launch took place recently, at a ceremony led by the Secretary of State for Land and Environment, Gustavo Djedje.

Djedje explained that the new initiative involves carrying out a detailed survey of existing opportunities, involving various stakeholders from the private sector. In addition, the development of capacity-building programmes focused on climate investments and the creation of spaces for dialogue that allow the sharing of experiences and knowledge among various actors in the area are planned.

The FAO representative in Mozambique, José Fernández, stressed that the project reflects the joint determination to promote sustainable development and ensure greater resilience of communities in the face of the challenges of climate change.

“This support reinforces our commitment to eradicating poverty and hunger, investing in innovative and sustainable agriculture, capable of responding to food crises, natural disasters and global warming,” he said.
