Mozambique could have four more sales and distribution stations for Natural Gas for Vehicles (NGV). To this end, the Mozambican company Autogás is expected to invest around four million dollars (more than 255 million meticais).

Autogás will thus expand its operations and could have a station in Chicumbane, in the province of Gaza, as the company's executive director, João Das Neves, recently revealed in Maputo during the Autogás 2025 Seminar, which had as its theme “Uniting Stakeholders to Massify the Use of Natural Gas”.

Das Neves highlighted the existence of other projects financed by SASOL/BNI for cities such as Xai-Xai, Maxixe and Pambara, which will contribute to the expansion of the NGV supply network in southern Mozambique. He also predicts that, in the next decade, the current number of seven stations could grow to around twenty, covering the provinces of Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane.

However, he stressed that the expansion of the use of CNG faces significant challenges, such as the lack of tax and customs incentives for the import of vehicles adapted to CNG and their equipment, as well as the absence of legislation that favors public and semi-public transportation powered by CNG on the routes already served.

Other critical points include the need to "de-dollarize" the purchase price of gas, index the sale price to the real acquisition cost, and regulate the transportation rates of CNG and Mobile CNG.

He stated that it is the government's responsibility to encourage and promote the use of this national resource, which is economically advantageous and has great potential to reduce the costs of importing liquid fuels, reduce transportation expenses, and generate new jobs.
