Copenhagen’s music scene was recently graced with a performance by Deodato Siquir at the Winter Jazz Festival. The Mozambican musician took to the stage to present an Afro-jazz fusion, in a sound experience that mixed African rhythms with Scandinavian jazz influences.
The event was organised by Nova Concerts, a prestigious Scandinavian showbiz agency, which aimed to offer the audience an immersive musical journey for those seeking new sounds. Deodato Siquir, widely recognised for his virtuosity as a drummer, percussionist and guitarist, was accompanied by a group of Danish musicians.
Among them, Albert Reinholdt, who played electric and upright bass, Jacob Broholm, responsible for piano and keyboard, and Alexander Kraglund, who performed on violin, harmonica and backing vocals. Together they created a true fusion of cultures on stage. The concert focused on Siquir’s latest album “Together”, but also gave the audience the chance to relive some tracks from his previous albums, namely “Balanço” (2007) and “Mutema” (2011).
Born in 1975 in Maputo, Siquir grew up in a family of musicians. He began his career at a very young age, joining the band Escolinha Vamos Brincar in 1988, and by the age of 15 he was already performing with professional orchestras. During the 1990s, he stood out as an accompanist for renowned musicians. His career took him to Scandinavia in 2001, where he established himself as one of the most sought-after figures in the jazz and world music scenes.
