Trata-se de uma doen\u00e7a neuro-degenerativa cr\u00f3nica e a forma mais comum de dem\u00eancia.<\/p>\r\n<p>Manifesta-se lentamente e vai-se agravando ao longo do tempo. O sintoma inicial mais comum \u00e9 a perda de mem\u00f3ria a curto prazo, com dificuldades em recordar eventos recentes.<\/p>\r\n<p>Embora n\u00e3o exista ainda uma cura para o Alzheimer, diversos estudos indicam que certos h\u00e1bitos podem ajudar a prevenir ou atrasar o seu aparecimento. Manter o c\u00e9rebro activo \u00e9 um dos principais factores de protec\u00e7\u00e3o. Ler, resolver <em><i>puzzles<\/i><\/em>, aprender novos idiomas ou tocar instrumentos musicais s\u00e3o formas eficazes de estimular as fun\u00e7\u00f5es cognitivas.<\/p>\r\n<p>A pr\u00e1tica regular de exerc\u00edcio f\u00edsico tamb\u00e9m se revela essencial ao melhorar a circula\u00e7\u00e3o sangu\u00ednea e a oxigena\u00e7\u00e3o do c\u00e9rebro. A alimenta\u00e7\u00e3o equilibrada, rica em frutas, legumes, peixes gordos (como salm\u00e3o e sardinha) e azeite, ao estilo da dieta mediterr\u00e2nica, est\u00e1 associada \u00e0 preserva\u00e7\u00e3o das fun\u00e7\u00f5es cerebrais.<\/p>\r\n<p>Evitar o isolamento social \u00e9 igualmente importante. Interac\u00e7\u00f5es sociais frequentes ajudam a manter a mente activa e reduzem o risco de depress\u00e3o.
