Este porto\u00a0hist\u00f3rico foi um dos principais eixos de transporte mar\u00edtimo e ferrovi\u00e1rio do pa\u00eds,\u00a0contribuindo para o crescimento econ\u00f3mico da regi\u00e3o.<\/p>\r\n<p>O Lumbo foi tamb\u00e9m o terminal ferrovi\u00e1rio de um ramal da Linha de Nacala, inaugurada em\u00a01924 para ligar Nacala a Cuamba, num percurso de 538 quil\u00f3metros. A linha bifurcava-se em\u00a0Monapo, com um tro\u00e7o de 42 quil\u00f3metros direcionado para nascente, at\u00e9 atingir a pequena\u00a0pen\u00ednsula do Lumbo. Esta infraestrutura ferrovi\u00e1ria foi crucial para o escoamento de\u00a0mercadorias e o desenvolvimento da zona costeira.<\/p>\r\n<p>Al\u00e9m da ferrovia, o Lumbo possu\u00eda um aer\u00f3dromo, cujo terminal, em estilo neotradicional,\u00a0hoje se encontra em ru\u00ednas. Ao longo da pen\u00ednsula, ainda s\u00e3o vis\u00edveis vest\u00edgios de antigas\u00a0resid\u00eancias de f\u00e9rias, hot\u00e9is e edif\u00edcios ferrovi\u00e1rios, outrora s\u00edmbolos do dinamismo\u00a0econ\u00f3mico da regi\u00e3o.<\/p>\r\n<p>Nos seus tempos \u00e1ureos, o Lumbo foi um ponto de converg\u00eancia de culturas e um centro de trocas comerciais que fortaleceu as rela\u00e7\u00f5es entre continentes.
