In Mozambique, where rural communities depend directly on natural resources for their survival, environmental management and food security initiatives are becoming strategic for the future.

It is within this framework that Mozambique and Brazil are strengthening their partnership with the implementation of the Mabalane Agroforestry Center (Cefloma II) in Gaza province, a project that combines environmental preservation, scientific research, and the promotion of food security.

The initiative emerges as a joint response to the challenges of forest degradation and climate vulnerability in the region, focusing on solutions that value scientific knowledge combined with the needs of local communities.

For the stakeholders, the project represents more than an institutional intervention; it is seen as a practical approach to climate adaptation based on territory and populations.

The agreement was formalized through a memorandum of understanding between the Brazilian ambassador to Mozambique, Ademar Seabra da Cruz, the Minister of Education and Culture, Samaria Tovela, and the rector of Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM), Manuel Guilherme, consolidating cooperation between governmental and academic institutions of the two countries.

The project coordination will be the responsibility of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), while the technical execution will be ensured by the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), through the Department of Forest Sciences. On the Mozambican side, the coordination of activities will be led by the Ministry of Education and Culture, in conjunction with UEM.

Among the main areas of intervention is the reduction of deforestation and forest degradation in Mabalane, through the promotion of sustainable practices for the management of natural resources and the recovery of environmentally degraded areas.

The project also integrates a strong scientific research component, with special attention to the mopane caterpillar (Gonimbrasia belina), a traditional food and important source of protein for several communities. Studies include controlled laboratory rearing techniques, aiming to strengthen food security and reduce pressure on natural resources.

The first phase of Cefloma II will last three years and foresees the creation of infrastructure to support research and training, including laboratories, forest nurseries, accommodation, and administrative spaces, as well as the introduction of fast-growing forest species as a sustainable alternative.

For the promoters, the initiative reinforces the importance of environmental strategies adapted to local realities, where science, communities, and institutions work together to build resilience solutions.

In addition to the environmental and scientific components, the project symbolizes the strengthening of academic relations between Mozambique and Brazil, promoting the exchange of knowledge, the training of students, and collaboration between researchers from both countries.

In the coming months, an official Brazilian mission to Mozambique is planned for the laying of the foundation stone for the project in Mabalane, marking the beginning of a new phase of cooperation focused on sustainability, science, and responding to climate challenges.

(By Renaldo Manhice)

The initiative emerges as a joint response to the challenges of forest degradation and climate vulnerability in the region, focusing on solutions that value scientific knowledge combined with the needs of local communities.

</bl...

[16,5
2002,2001,1999,1997,2004,2000,554,2005,1998,2003,711,128
post-4841","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-destacadas","category-environment","tag-a-ministra-da-educacao-e-cultura","tag-ademar-seabra-da-cruz","tag-agro-florestal","tag-centro-agro-florestal-de-mabalane-cefloma-ii","tag-e-o-reitor-da-universidade-eduardo-mondlane-uem","tag-embaixador-do-brasil-em-mocambique","tag-gaza","tag-manuel-guilherme","tag-mocambique-e-brasil","tag-samaria-tovela","tag-uem","tag-universidade-eduardo-mondlane
["GET
