The inauguration of the Fisheries Monitoring, Control and Surveillance Centre of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) marked one of the most important moments of the III Growing Blue Conference, which concluded this Friday after two days of debates, sharing of experiences and promotion of partnerships to boost the blue economy in Mozambique.<\/p>\r\n

The infrastructure, intended to strengthen the fight against illegal fishing in Southern Africa, was inaugurated by the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, during a ceremony that included the formal handover of the centre to the SADC Executive Secretariat.<\/p>\r\n

According to Daniel Chapo, the realization of the project results from a regional vision built over more than two decades, based on the SADC Protocol on Fisheries, adopted in 2001, and reinforced by the commitments made by member states in the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

Under the motto \u201cBlue Future: Accelerating Economic Sustainability,\u201d the 3rd Growing Blue Conference brought together representatives from the government, the private sector, academia, cooperation partners, and civil society organizations.<\/p>\r\n

In addition to plenary sessions and thematic panels, the event featured several parallel activities, including the 4th Marine Biodiversity Conference, the launch of the National Shark and Ray Management and Conservation Plan, and the Growing Blue Exhibition and Fair, initiatives that gave visibility to projects and opportunities linked to the blue economy.<\/p>\r\n

The conference was also marked by the signing of memoranda of understanding between ProAzul, IUCN, and BIOFUND, reinforcing cooperation for the conservation of marine biodiversity and the sustainable management of ocean resources.<\/p>\r\n
