Ars\u00e9nio Jorge, a professor at Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM), was recently awarded the best doctoral thesis in Sociology in 2024 by the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), in Brazil.<\/p>\r\n

The thesis is entitled \u201cSharing Information and Knowledge with Urban Farmers for the Development of Agricultural Practices: the Case of the Infulene Valley, Mozambique\u201d.<\/p>\r\n

Through this work, Ars\u00e9nio Jorge investigates urban agriculture in the Infulene Valley, analyzing how local farmers share knowledge and combine traditional practices with new innovations.<\/p>\r\n

The study also examines the effects of rapid urbanization, the difficulties in agricultural work and the challenges faced by small producers in remaining active in a constantly changing environment.<\/p>\r\n

The study also addresses inequalities, such as the exclusion of women farmers in access to resources and male domination in decisions about agricultural practices.<\/p>\r\n

With an interdisciplinary approach, the professor used methodologies from agronomy, sociology and statistics to present a detailed analysis of production processes in urban agriculture.<\/p>\r\n

In addition to expanding knowledge on the subject, the thesis has an important social impact, as it offers valuable data for the creation of public policies aimed at food sustainability and support for small urban farmers.<\/p>\r\n

With a degree in Agronomy and Forestry Engineering, as well as a master's degree in Rural Extension from UEM, Ars\u00e9nio Jorge now adds to his CV the title of Doctor in Sociology from UFMG.<\/p>\r\n
