The Liberdade Health Centre, in the city of Matola, has benefited from root and branch rehabilitation to improve the infrastructure and health care that will benefit around 65,000 people. In a statement, the US Embassy in Mozambique said that the US government had invested around 164,000 dollars in the work.<\/p>\r\n

The Resident Deputy Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Lu\u00eds Morfin, and the Governor of Maputo Province, J\u00falio Parruque, took part in the inauguration ceremony. \"Our partnership in the health sector has generated a multiplier effect of the U.S. government resources, which translates into greater capacity to offer high-quality public health services to families in Maputo province,\" said the Deputy Director of the CDC-Mozambique.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\r\n

The rehabilitation project at the Liberdade Health Center aims to accelerate efforts to respond to the HIV and Tuberculosis epidemics and improve the province's resilience against public health emergencies.\u00a0 The main aspects of the renovation include work to expand the original structure of the building, increasing the number of health service units from 15 to 22 as well as improving work areas, the circulation and accessibility of people, ventilation flows and light inside the infrastructure. The renovations also created better conditions for privacy in consultation rooms, which are essential \"for people to have confidence in their healthcare providers and for their right to health to be realized,\" said Mr. Morfin.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\r\n

Developed in partnership with the Maputo Provincial Health Directorate, the project was funded by the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), through the CDC and its implementing partner, the Center for Collaboration in Health. In the last four years alone, the PEPFAR\/CDC partnership with the health authorities in Maputo province has enabled investments of 2.8 million dollars (around 179 million meticais) to be made in 55 health infrastructure projects, including the Machava Hospital Laboratory, the construction of 23 Adolescent and Youth Friendly Services spaces, and the renovation of 20 health facilities.<\/u><\/u><\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\r\n

Since 2001, the CDC has worked closely with the Government of Mozambique, non-governmental organizations and multilateral partners to address some of Mozambique's most significant public health challenges, including HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and COVID-19.
