Strengthening initiatives aimed at environmental protection is the motto of a partnership between the Association of Environmental and Human Rights Journalists (AJADH) and the Pedagogical University of Maputo (UP-Maputo).
Both institutions joined forces to discuss ways of cooperating to face ecological challenges, as well as to promote awareness of climate issues.
They addressed topics such as biodiversity conservation, mangrove preservation and the impacts of climate change.
The rector of UP-Maputo, Jorge Ferrão, highlighted the need to intensify actions to protect coastal areas, warning of environmental problems that affect the country, such as landslides, coastal pollution, inspection and reduction of marine fauna as factors that compromise the economy.
Participants also highlight the importance of preserving fragile ecosystems, including mangroves, coral reefs, beaches, wetlands and river deltas, which are fundamental to environmental balance.
For AJADH's executive director, Sérgio Nelson, the partnership with UP-Maputo paves the way for the development of educational programs and extension projects focused on sustainability.
Nelson highlighted the need to seek creative solutions to deal with financial challenges, in addition to better structuring the organization's operations to increase its impact on environmental preservation.
