“Sirens of the Indian Ocean”

“Sirens of the Indian Ocean” is the title of an exhibition that opens the October cultural season at the 16 Neto space, in Maputo, on the evening of the 8th.

Poster: 16Neto

The exhibition recalls that in Mozambique, stories of supernatural women inhabiting beaches and rivers persist. Among the Macua, Makonde, Changana, and Tsonga, they appear covered in mussiro, capulanas, and necklaces that shimmer like scales in the sun.

Guardians of enchantment, they unite the visible with the invisible, bringing fertility, protection, and desire. Their magnetism, capable of blessing or destroying men, echoes in rites and legends that span centuries, fascinating fishermen, warriors, and kings.
