The program is part of supporting sustainable development and creating economic opportunities for populations most affected by socioeconomic challenges and insecurity in that province.

To this end, it aims to directly create 24,000 jobs, with 60% of the opportunities aimed at young people between 18 and 35 years old and 50% reserved for women. In total, it is expected that more than 100,000 people will benefit.

The project also includes the rehabilitation of community infrastructure, strengthening of technical capacities, and promotion of community development in sustainable development initiatives.

For the president of the Integrated Development Agency of the North, Jacinto Loureiro, this is a lever to project the growth of populations affected by different situations in Cabo Delgado.

“Incidentally, it’s a drop in the ocean compared to the needs of Cabo Delgado. Therefore, we are coordinating with ADIN, and we see a significant difference from what it was three years ago, when the terrorism began. We must thank our partners for the rehabilitation efforts and urge them to continue investing, given that the needs are extremely high,” he said.

On the other hand, the representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Edo Stork, believes that the investment will allow for the strengthening and development of Cabo Delgado.

“Young people want more investment for Cabo Delgado, which is a province with many resources. So, we are here to celebrate, in some way, the wealth of Cabo Delgado and find ways to generate more jobs, opportunities, and investment so that Cabo Delgado can move forward much stronger. But the overall objective is to uplift Cabo Delgado and ensure that it receives more investment and more economic growth.

The Resilient Investment for Socioeconomic Empowerment, Peace and Security (RISE-PS) project in Cabo Delgado province is supported by the African Development Bank and will be managed by the Integrated Development Agency of the North, ADIN, and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP.”
