Mozambique and Egypt are strengthening cooperation in strategic areas to address the impacts of climate change, with a focus on water management and social housing.
Recently, the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Fernando Rafael, met in Maputo with the Egyptian Ambassador, Mohamad Hassan Farghal, to discuss ways of collaborating to address climate challenges, strengthen water diplomacy and increase access to affordable housing.
Faced with problems such as extreme weather events, shortages of drinking water and a housing deficit that affects a large part of the population, Mozambique is seeking effective solutions to mitigate these impacts. Egypt, with extensive experience in water resource management and the development of housing infrastructure in challenging contexts, has expressed interest in supporting the country by sharing knowledge and innovative technologies.
During the meeting, potential areas of collaboration were identified, including sustainable water management, with a focus on groundwater development and efficient watershed management.
The strengthening of social housing through public policies, adequate financing and new construction technologies capable of withstanding the impacts of climate change were also discussed. Both representatives expressed their intention to formalize this partnership through future cooperation agreements.
In recent years, Mozambique and Egypt have deepened their relationship through joint initiatives, such as technical training programs in water resources management and exchanges of experience. It is expected that, in the coming months, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed to consolidate this cooperation and promote sustainable solutions that benefit both countries.
