It's safe to say that Mozambican musician Isac Moiane is starting 2024 with the right "hand". The bassist, who released his first album in March 2023 and throughout that year played concerts to promote his original work, performed at the Jazz Cultural Centre in Shanghai on 7 January.

In a two-hour show, accompanied by top local musicians, the talented bassist left his irreverent music and Mozambican cultural experiences for the audience in China and other parts of the world who didn't want to miss the performance. "They're good music lovers, given that the JZ is a well-known venue," Isac Moiane told Mozavibe.

The JZ Club is the point of arrival for most jazz musicians in Shanghai. Many international jazz musicians have performed there, including Antonio Hart, Eddie Gomez, Chieli Minucci, Bugge Wesseltoft, Eric Legnini, Laura Fygi and Tina May. The Mozambican Isac Moiane joins this list with the approval of the audience, who saw their expectations of receiving an artist from the African continent fulfilled.

The concert allowed the audience to travel through the theme and sound inspired by African rhythms, but with plenty of influence from gospel and contemporary jazz.

According to Isac Moiane, the performance in China was an opportunity to "specialise on an artistic level", but also to explore new spaces and routes in the world music industry. "They reacted very well to the Isac Project. Let's hope they call me again," said the musician.

In 2023, Isac Moiane played a series of concerts in Maputo, to great acclaim in various cultural centres of reference, with the aim of promoting his album "Isac Project".
