Adelino Albano Luís wins Mia Couto Literary Award

WRITER Adelino Albano Luís is the winner of the 2nd edition of the Mia Couto Literary Prize (PLMC), in the prose category. The author won the award with the book “Estórias Trazidas pela Ventania”.

The work of Adelino Albano Luís stood out, according to the jury, “for its thematic richness, linguistic versatility and consistent construction of the stories”. With the distinction, the author of the book “Estórias Tradas pela Ventania” is entitled to the pecuniary value of 400 thousand meticais, financed by the company Cornelder de Moçambique.

Adelino Albano Luís was born in 1998, in Chimoio. Graduated in philosophy from Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) and author of the work ″Chronicontos da Cabeça do Velho″ (2022), Calane da Silva literary prize ⁄Alcance Editores (4th edition - 2021). It also won first place in the chronicle competition at the 1st edition of the Beira Book Fair (2021).

For the PLMC poetry category, the jury unanimously decided not to award any of the works entered. The members of the jury for the 2nd edition of the Mia Couto Literary Prize were Lourenço do Rosário (president), Teresa Manjate, Ondjaki, Marcelo Panguana and Tânia Macedo.

Also finalists were the works of prose and poetry “Kwashala Blues”, by Jessemusse Cacinda, “Estórias Trazidas pela Ventania”, by Adelino Albano Luís, “Da Asa do Vento, A Poeira do Fogo”, by Rungo Novela, and “As Ancas of the Chief Comrade”, by Sérgio Raimundo.
