The country has a new laboratory for training in ophthalmological surgeries at the Maputo Central Hospital (HCM).

The center aims to improve interventions for patients with eye problems by offering hands-on training in procedures such as cataract, glaucoma and eyelid surgeries, as well as other interventions on the visual system.

The infrastructure cost around one million meticais and is equipped with two table microscopes, providing resident doctors with the necessary space to practice and perfect their skills.

Before the lab was created, students practiced procedures with greater caution, sometimes using blind eyes or going to forensic medicine for training.

The new center is aimed especially at students in the first three years of training, but also offers support for more advanced doctors in complex surgeries.
