Food insecurity and chronic malnutrition continue to be major challenges in Mozambique. It is in this context that the Journalism Award for Nutrition and Food Security was created.

The 6th edition of the award was recently launched in Maputo, aiming to encourage journalistic coverage of key issues for public health. It was created in collaboration with the Technical Secretariat for Food Security and Nutrition (SETSAN) and the National Union of Journalists (SNJ).

Its objective is to recognize and reward the best journalistic work produced by Mozambican professionals, which contributes to the promotion of adequate and safe nutrition in Mozambique.

The award focuses on reducing chronic malnutrition and highlights articles that address topics such as nutritional education, eating habits, exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, nutritional care for pregnant and lactating women, and the impact of premature marriage and early pregnancy.

In addition, issues such as hygiene, sanitation, nutritional supplementation, infectious diseases and parasites, as well as social issues such as women's empowerment and poverty, will be evaluated.

The award will be given in three categories: print and digital press, radio, and television. There will also be a special award for the media outlet that stands out in its continuous and quality coverage of malnutrition and food security.

The application process will be open from 1 to 15 September 2025, and the works will be evaluated from 16 September to 15 October of the same year.
