Maputo will once again host the Cenas Curtas Theatre Festival, which will take place in its 4th edition on the 25th, 26th and 27th of April, at 6 pm, at the Fernando Leite Couto Foundation (FFLC) and at Casa Velha.
The festival will open with a talk on the theme “Singular Dramaturgy” this Friday, at 6 pm, at the FFLC, with Brazilian director and screenwriter Vinicius Araguaya, with experience in dramaturgy, fiction and documentary content production.
“We start from the assumption that each person has a unique voice. Pursuing uniqueness is the goal of our personal writing. But are there ways to catalyze this process? Are there shortcuts? Is the road the same for everyone, or is it as unique as the timbre of our own voice?”, explains Rita Couto, festival coordinator, about the questions that will guide the conversation.
The second day will be dedicated to theatre on the stage of Casa Velha, a legendary cultural space in Maputo that has reopened after years of inactivity. The evening will be dedicated to “Improvícios - Batalha de Teatro do Improviso”, bringing together several prominent actors from the capital’s current theatre scene to create a unique show, the result of improvisations.
What’s even more interesting is that, at the end, the audience will be able to choose the most creative in this creation. Some of the artists who will take to the stage are: Ailton Zimila, Fernando Macamo, Joana Mbalango, Kátia Manjate, Lirico Poetico, Lucrécia Noronha and Osvaldo Passirivo.
This way of putting on a show, which is a different model from previous editions of “Cenas Curtas”, where artists were challenged to explore a specific theme and props, seeks to give the audience the experience of witnessing the creative process that artists go through, but also to encourage professionals in the performing arts to explore the best of their creativity.
On Sunday, the closing event of “Cenas Curtas” will be held at FFLC, at 6 pm, with improvisation games where everyone, whether they are theatre makers or not, will be called on stage to perform.
