Sangare Okapi, one of the most original and celebrated voices in contemporary Mozambican poetry, will launch the book “Poemas de Revisitação do Corpo Seguido de Apoteose do Nada” on April 3rd, at 5:30 pm, at Camões — Centro Cultural Português in Maputo.
The work, published by Gala Gala Edições, brings together the author’s first two books in the order they were written. It marks Okapi’s 20 years of poetic production and is part of the “Biblioteca de Poesia Rui de Noronha” collection.
With 100 pages, “Poemas de Revisitação do Corpo Seguido de Apoteose do Nada” offers readers the opportunity to revisit the first steps of a poet who, from an early age, demonstrated an unparalleled ability to execute poetry through a singular and exquisite language.
“Sangare Okapi’s text is an immersion into the roots of poetry, where the body and the void intersect in a dance that confronts us with our own fragility and transcendence.
This work reveals to us a beginner and avant-garde Sangare, an enfant terrible who, from the beginning, stood out for his boldness and originality, exploring themes such as the body, identity, memory and death with an acuity that leaves us breathless”, points out Pedro Pereira, the book’s editor, “which is why, almost two decades later, he is still relevant and should be read”.
The event will feature the participation of professors Sara Jona Laisse and Lucílio Manjate, who will share their reflections on the work and the importance of Sangare Okapi for Mozambican literature.
