At Rio Innovation Week 2025, Graça Machel made her presence felt with a speech that resonated with international leaders, entrepreneurs, and young students, arguing that technology only fulfills its role when it reinforces human dignity.

Inspired by the African philosophy of Ubuntu, "I am because you are," the Mozambican leader emphasized that technological advancement cannot be dissociated from respect for life, social justice, and solidarity.
In the panel discussion with Congolese physician and Nobel Peace Prize winner Denis Mukwege, Machel highlighted the urgency of rethinking education in the digital context. According to her, the use of technology must be aligned with strengthening human capabilities, expanding access to knowledge, and developing citizens prepared to face the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
This vision is relevant for Mozambique, where higher education and vocational training institutions face challenges related to inclusion, teaching quality, and equitable access to digital tools.
Machel's speech projects a horizon in which innovation can act as a bridge to reduce inequalities, modernize curricula, and open up new learning possibilities for young people.
