On May 6, at 6pm, the Camões - Portuguese Cultural Center in Maputo celebrates World Portuguese Language Day with a screening of the documentary "No Semáforo", directed by filmmaker and journalist Miguel Bretiano.
The documentary tells the story of Nelson, a young man who works near a traffic light in Maputo, selling car products, with the dream of learning to read. Every week, a teacher joins him and others like him to teach them, and it is with the hope of better days that Nelson never misses a lesson.
The 20-minute screening of \"No Semáforo\" will be followed by an open discussion with Miguel Bretiano, teacher Catarina Sive and student Nelson Ubisse, the protagonists of the documentary, which is dedicated to the teaching of reading in Portuguese. The conversation will be moderated by journalist Elton Pila.
Biographical note on Miguel Bretiano:
Miguel Bretiano, 51, born in Mozambique, has worked for TVI since 1993 and, more recently, for CNN Portugal, as an image reporter/journalist. With a passion for documentaries, \"No Semáforo\" is his third project in the field. Mozambique has always been close to his heart, and this project is the first of many he hopes to carry out in the country.
