The twentieth edition of the country's largest and oldest festival of theatre, the International Winter Theatre Festival (FITI, acronym in portuguese), kicks with "Niketche," inspired by the eponymous novel by writer Paulina Chiziane.

It's the opening act of the event, which runs until June 9 and features participation from groups from seven countries, including Mozambique, Angola, Portugal, Brazil, South Africa, Malawi, and Zimbabwe.

Presented by the theater company Luarte, the show is directed by Yuck Miranda and staged by Elliot Alex. It tells the story of Rami, a married woman who, upon discovering her spouse's infidelity, encounters several mistresses, each from different parts of the country.

Through the play, the audience is invited to explore the influence of Mozambican women's customs and cultural diversity regarding marriage. FITI 2024 addresses themes such as human rights, conflicts in Africa, female empowerment, and youth-oriented plays, alongside conversations and artistic workshops.
