The MASC Foundation, in partnership with Exxon Mobil through Rovuma LNG, has launched the “Samaki Kavu” project in the Palma district of Cabo Delgado province, aimed at promoting fish drying and preservation, essential practices for the sustainability of local fishing.
The initiative, to be implemented in the communities of the Administrative Posts of Quionga, Palma-Sede, and Olumbe (Farol, Maganja, and Olumbe), includes the distribution of specialized equipment kits for fish drying and preservation, along with technical training in areas such as best fishing practices and preservation techniques. This approach will directly benefit 36 community members, including internally displaced persons, women, youth, and people with disabilities.
Palma district administrator João Buchili highlighted the importance of the initiative for improving the quality of life of local communities, while SDAE director Naungi Ntave reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening the economy and promoting sustainable practices.
The “Samaki Kavu” project represents a significant step in the economic and social development of the region, offering viable and sustainable alternatives for fishing communities and contributing to greater resilience in Cabo Delgado.
