Amid the challenges faced by the province of Cabo Delgado since 2017, the “Mais Emprego” project stands out as an initiative that renews hopes and builds futures. Launched in 2020, with funding of 4.2 million euros from the European Union and managed by Instituto Camões, the project has positively impacted 1,435 beneficiaries in the last four years.

Promoted by the State Secretariat for Youth and Employment (SEJE), the project aims to create economic opportunities and improve access to decent work, especially for young people. The results are impressive: hundreds of young people were trained in technical areas, received self-employment kits or interned in local companies, while dozens of Small and Medium-sized Companies advanced in quality certification processes.

For many beneficiaries, the project represented a turning point in their trajectories. Young people reported that, in addition to the technical skills acquired, they gained knowledge in management and entrepreneurship, which was essential for starting their own businesses. One beneficiary highlighted the importance of dedication and financial planning, while another young man mentioned how the project's incentive allowed him to open a transport business that now generates sustainable income.

The Secretary of State for Youth and Employment, Oswaldo Petersburgo, praised the resilience of the participants, highlighting the inspiring role they play in promoting good for Mozambique. The Ambassador of Portugal, António Costa Moura, emphasized that the project brought real gains in income and opportunities, even in a context marked by conflicts and economic downturn.

In the final phase of the first stage, it was announced that negotiations are underway to increase the budget to nine million euros and expand the project to Nampula. The expectation is that the second phase will continue to generate significant impact, strengthening young people, companies and entire communities.
