Nuvunga enters the list as one of the figures whose story inspires the continent to cultivate leadership rooted in service, innovation, and an unwavering pursuit of a better future for all.
Compiled by The New Africa magazine, the list includes political leaders, entrepreneurs, activists, and other professionals from various fields who "transcended borders and redefined the course of history," shaping the African continent through their unwavering commitments to progress and unity.
According to the magazine, Adriano Nuvunga is a "tireless fighter against corruption in Mozambique." Nuvunga is one of the figures who in recent years has been fully dedicated to the defense of human rights in all dimensions and to denouncing and combating corruption at all levels, reads the publication.
Among the 100 most influential figures in Africa in 2023 are also musician Akon, the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, among other prominent figures at the African continent level.
Dr. Adriano Nuvunga, with a Ph.D. in Development Studies from the International Institute of Social Studies at Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands, is an academic and prominent human rights activist in Mozambique and Africa. With extensive and recognized work in leading various development programs, focusing on democratic rule of law, he also gains prominence as a tireless advocate for human rights. Currently, he leads the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD) and chairs the Mozambican Network of Human Rights Defenders (RMDDH) at the national level and the Southern Africa Human Rights Defenders Network (SAHRDN) at the regional level.
It's worth noting that in 2022, the New African magazine recognized Adriano Nuvunga as one of the 100 most influential Africans.
